Participant of Hawaii Stormwater Excellence Program (HSEP)

Marisco is one of the largest marine and industrial services companies in Hawaii.   Marisco serves the governmental, commercial marine and industrial  sectors of Hawaii.

MariscoMarisco’s environmental compliance manager, Steve Hinton, managed environmental affairs at the company from 2002 through 2006 and most recently returned at Mariosco’s request in January of this year to design and implement an ISO 14001-compliant environmental management system to replace its current management program.

“Due to our proximity to Barber’s Point Harbor combined with the nature of our industrial process, stormwater runoff has been a primary factor in the formulation of Marisco’s environmental policy and has been the driving force in reconstruction of the site to facilitate sheet flow diverted from our perimeter along with installation of engineering controls which virtually eliminate the possibility for discharge.  It is estimated that it would take a 75-year event to breach these controls.  Strictly enforced BMPs will limit the introduction of contaminants of concern to discharged stormwater in such an event.”

“A program like HISRM is long overdue in Hawaii, and I strongly urge all NPDES General Permit holders to actively participate.  The cost is negligible compared to the benefits in facilitating fulfillment of our responsibility to safeguard Hawaii’s unique and fragile environment for future generations.”  -Steve Hinton
